A chat with Mutual Vision's new CEO Tim Bowen
There have been many exciting developments at Mutual Vision over the past few months, and with more to come in 2024 we caught up with new CEO Tim Bowen to find out a little more about him and get his thoughts on future opportunities for MV and the sector.
What is your background? Where have you joined us from?
I have been a Banker for the last 22 years working in large banks for most of my career but then moving to the mutual sector in 2016. I have always had a keen and obvious interest in the rise of FinTech’s and remain convinced that Mutual Vision can provide the longer-term answers to our customers regarding their digital strategies. What has been and will continue to be critically important to me is that we listen to and involve our customers in the decisions we take moving forward which will allow Mutual Vision to build the best solutions possible but will allow the customer the ability to offer their customers or members the services and experiences that they both expect and deserve.
What appealed to you about working with digital banking platforms?
Regardless of the size and scale of the institution, what I have seen over the years, especially in smaller and medium sized firms is both a lack of clarity in what their individual digital journeys look like coupled with concerns around the level of cost and investment required in landing their digitisation roadmaps to allow them to ensure they remain relevant to their existing and prospective customers or members. I am convinced that Mutual Vision can answer both of these questions and more with the core transformation project that we are undertaking. The cost of digitisation should not be a barrier for any Financial Services institution, and we will remain committed over the long term to ensuring that with our unique mutuality way of working, MV can provide best in class core banking systems and front-end solutions without becoming cost prohibitive.
What appealed to you about working at Mutual Vision?
Mutual Vision is in a position now that gives the business and its customers a unique opportunity to create a truly cloud native core banking system that will be fit for purpose for the long term but, most importantly, will provide the opportunity for small and mid-size firms to begin to level the playing field when it comes to the digitisation of their businesses. Who would not want to be part of this journey, especially when considering that we can do this aligned to our mutual ethos and culture? For me, the strategy is right, and I want to ensure that we create solutions for our customers that remain relevant, sustainable and support our them to operate in their chosen marketplace and interact and transact effectively with their customers or members. What also excites me are the future digital opportunities that lay ahead for our customers and shareholders through the excellent partnership that we have with Mambu as well as the continuing opportunities that we will expose through collaboration with our friends at League Data in Canada. Finally, working with every member of our incredible team at Mutual Vision to be a force for good through enduring technical innovation and achieve something that can be transformational for the business and our customers is what I look forward to the most.
