First hand account of joining MV during lockdown

Junior Product Owner, George Coulter had a somewhat unusual induction to his career with MV. We sat down for a video chat about virtual induction processes, the MV company ethos and what he is looking forward to post-lockdown.

MV: What made you want to join MV?

GC: Following University I looked to follow my interest in technology and product-management and secured a 6-month work placement working closely with the Director of Product and Innovation and the Chief Executive Officer at a travel e-commerce company. I absolutely loved this experience and it definitely helped decide my future career path. When I first learnt about MV I liked their ethos and strategy, to help bring the mutual sector at the forefront of financial technology and being involved with a company that I know is helping communities throughout the nation is a great feeling. I joined MV in the product team with the hope to learn more about the sector and I know with the appropriate training from the senior leaders, I will be able to increase my skillset and offering that will mutually benefit the business.

MV: What did MV do to make it easier for you to settle in?

GC: I don’t think starting a job in during the Covid-19 pandemic is easy for anyone, no matter what job role or sector. However, MV acted promptly and efficiently to ensure that I was welcomed and able to work from day 1. Joining a welcoming team and manager that has a lot of trust in me has particularly helped me settle in, even though I’ve not physically met them yet! The transition process to working effectively in a remote environment has been seamless and calm, with everyone in the business eager to help you out or explain anything I don’t understand. Everyone knows that in the current climate, everyone is going to have a lot more mental strain and even emotional strain whilst trying to complete our daily lives so I am very appreciative to MV for allowing me to get up and running so quickly.

MV: What are you looking forward to after lockdown?

GC: It may be odd to say but I’m looking forward to actually seeing the office and meet all the people I speak to ‘virtually’ on a daily basis. I’m excited to get to know every single one of my colleagues and introduce myself properly. Outside of work, I’m looking forward to spending quality time with friends and family that I have not seen since the lockdown has started and appreciating those little moments you take for granted! I absolutely love to travel too, so any opportunity I can get to spend some quality time in a new environment with a different culture will be amazing too. Playing and actually watching football is also at the top of my post-lockdown list!
